FETCH

What is FETCH

Welcome to the world of AKC Fetch! When dog enthusiasts are asked about their favorite activities with their furry companions, the most frequent responses include going for a walk and engaging in the timeless game of fetch.

AKC Fetch titles were conceived as an exciting addition to the AKC Family Dog Program, offering dog owners another delightful way to bond with their pets. Attaining AKC Fetch titles not only presents opportunities for physical exercise but also stimulates dogs mentally. While some dogs naturally excel at retrieving, the AKC Fetch program, particularly at advanced levels, involves the acquisition of new skills, such as precise retrieval techniques.

Designed to cater to all breeds, AKC Fetch operates as a pass-fail noncompetitive test with four distinct title levels: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Retriever. These titles gauge a dog's proficiency in retrieving, with the Advanced and Retriever levels incorporating signal responsiveness and a memory component. In the latter stages, the dog must correctly retrieve an item dropped or thrown behind a blind, where it cannot be seen.

To achieve each title, the dog must successfully pass the test twice under the evaluation of two different approved AKC Fetch judges. Eligible dogs, aged six months or older, must be registered or enrolled with the AKC, possessing an AKC, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number.

Participating in AKC Fetch offers a myriad of benefits. It provides a healthy form of exercise for both dogs and owners, introducing new skills to dogs and offering handlers the chance to teach skills they may not have covered before. Moreover, AKC Fetch titles are not only enjoyable to earn but can also serve as a prerequisite AKC title for achieving the Gold level in AKC FIT DOG.
