We were founded and incorporated under Georgia state law as a non-profit organization in 1939 and have been in continuous operation for over 75 years. Our objectives are to further the advancement of all breeds of pure-bred dogs; to protect and advance the interest of all breeds of pure-bred dogs and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials and tracking test; to conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, obedience trials and tracking tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club. We also seek to educate the general public regarding responsible ownership and care of all dogs whether pure-bred or not.
The Macon Kennel Club held its first organized dog show in 1939 and has had at least one such dog show annually since that time. The early dogs shows were held outdoors in Macon’s Central City Park but since then we have used many different locations both indoors and outdoors in such places as Unadilla, greater Atlanta and Perry, Georgia. We currently hold two dog shows each year during the month of May at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter which is the finest animal exhibition center in the southeast. Our shows attract 3,000 to 4,000 exhibitors from all states through out the southeast. These exhibitors utilize local motels, recreational vehicle parks, restaurants, and other businesses thereby contributing significantly to the local economy. As a result of Macon Kennel Club promotional activities about facilities available in Middle Georgia there has been a increase in animal related events at the Georgia Agricenter in Perry, Georgia.
The membership of the Macon Kennel Club draws officially from a 60 mile radius of Macon, Georgia; however, interested persons from outside this circle are eligible and anyone who loves dogs is welcome. The demographics of our membership have changed over time to where most current members reside in the Warner Robins area. Our meetings are normally held on the first Monday of every month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Macon Kennel Club Facility located at 132 Hicks Drive Perry, GA 31069
